Fabien Moulaert was born in Liège (Belgium) in 1985. From the age of nine, he developed a passion for music and began studying the organ with Pierre Matot. At eighteen, he decided to turn his passion into a profession by entering the organ, trombone, and composition/writing classes at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Liège.
In 2009, he completed his organ studies with great distinction in the class of Anne Froidebise. After studying music pedagogy (2011) and earning a Bachelor’s degree in modern trombone in the class of Alain Pire, his passion for early music led him to continue his studies at the Musikhochschule in Cologne, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Baroque trombone in the class of Wim Becu (2014).
In June 2020, he earned a Master’s degree in classical composition/writing in the class of Edward Vanmarsenille at the Royal Conservatory of Liège.
The trombone, organ, and musical writing complement each other in Fabien’s artistic work. They enrich his interpretation, performance, and understanding of music, especially that of the 17th and 18th centuries.
In January 2021, Fabien was appointed titular organist of the Korfmacher organ (1841) at Saint Sebastian’s Church in Stavelot.
He teaches musical analysis and composition/writing at the Royal Conservatory of Liège.
