Matteo Imbruno (1964) studied organ in Bologna, Rotterdam, and Lübeck. Since 1997, he has been the organist for the Oude Kerk Foundation in Amsterdam, the same position held by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck in the 17th century. As a concert organist, he has performed at the most prestigious festivals and music centers in Europe, Japan, South America, and the United States. He has been a guest lecturer in Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Tokyo, Madrid, Krakow, etc., and at nearly all Italian conservatories.
In 2022, Matteo Imbruno received the Frans Banninck Cocq Medal from the City of Amsterdam, presented by Touria Meliani, the Alderwoman for Art and Culture: “For 25 years, you have carried the spirit of Sweelinck and his music here in the Oude Kerk, but especially far beyond it,” said Alderwoman Meliani. “As the organist of the Oude Kerk, he has been an ambassador for the city of Amsterdam for 25 years.”
