Maude Gratton

Born in 1983, Maude Gratton has been passionate about historical keyboards and a wide variety of repertoires since a very young age. Her first steps led her to the harpsichord at age five, followed a few years later by the pipe organ. Also quickly fascinated by the clavichord, it was only natural that she began exploring the multifaceted world of historical pianos around the age of twenty.

Eager to create a space where music could flourish freely, Maude founded the ensemble il Convito in 2005 on chamber music foundations alongside Claire Gratton. The ensemble operated independently for ten years, guided by a “Déclic” Prize awarded by Cultures France and Radio France. In 2015, il Convito dropped anchor in La Rochelle: the structure was officially born and developed around artistic projects exploring the intersection of Music, Arts, and History. The diversity of historical keyboards is the heart and the common thread of various chapters, revealing an internal architecture built around and in the footsteps of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Committed to the sharing of music and arts, Maude founded and serves as artistic director for several projects in France’s Nouvelle-Aquitaine region: the Musiques en Gâtine festival, the MM Festival (Music in Motion Festival in La Rochelle), the MM Season, and the MM Orchestra.

Maude Gratton is a member of Collegium Vocale Gent, directed by Philippe Herreweghe, and regularly performs alongside musicians such as Bruno Cocset & Les Basses Réunies, François Lazarevitch & Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien, Pierre Hantaï, Sophie Gent, Ageet Zweistra, Pablo de Pedro, and Claire Gratton. Since 2018, she has been invited by choreographer Noé Soulier to participate in the production Faits et gestes.

Since 2011, Maude has taught at the Vannes Early Music Institute (dir. Bruno Cocset); she has also taught at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent (Belgium) and the Conservatory of Versailles Grand Parc. In 2025, she was appointed professor of organ (specializing in historical organs) at the CNSMD in Paris. She founded the first edition of the il Convito Academy in 2026.

Maude has recorded several albums for the Mirare label: Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (Harpsichord Concertos, Works for Harpsichord & Clavichord), Georges Onslow (Sonatas for Cello & Pianoforte), and Beethoven (Sonatas for Violin & Pianoforte). She has recorded for the Phi – Outhere music label (Bach Leipzig Organ Works) and participated as a soloist in several recordings with Le Banquet Céleste, Ricercar Consort, Les Basses Réunies, Jean-François Novelli, L’Amoroso, Edding Quartet, and Les Siècles. Upcoming releases include a solo disc dedicated to Venetian music (from Cavazzoni to Merula) and the first orchestral recording by il Convito with guest Pierre Hantaï, focusing on double concertos for harpsichord(s) and pianoforte by the Bach sons.

Maude graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in harpsichord, organ, basso continuo, and Renaissance counterpoint. In 2003, she won 2nd Prize at the International Organ Competition in Bruges and was named 2006 Young Soloist of the Public Francophone Radios.
