Dorien Schouten received her first organ lessons from Ko Zwanenburg. She obtained her bachelor’s degrees in both organ (2010) and church music (2011) at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where she studied organ with Jos van der Kooy.
She then continued her studies at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Leo van Doeselaar and Erwin Wiersinga. There, she obtained her Diplomprüfung in 2013 and, after two more years of study with Leo van Doeselaar and Paolo Crivellaro, earned the Konzertexamen mit Auszeichnung in 2015.
That same year, she was invited to record several works by Bach on the Reil organ in Kampen for the All of Bach project of the Netherlands Bach Society.
In 2022, Dorien completed the Choral Conducting Application Course at HKU in Utrecht, and since May 2023, she has been the conductor of the Brabants Kamerkoor.
Dorien enjoys introducing audiences to new music, both as a soloist and with ensembles. She also has a passion for performing Baroque music, preferably on historical instruments or as a continuo player. Since December 2019, she has been the cantor-organist of the Tuindorpkerk in Utrecht.
