Peter Maus

Performances:

Peter Maus started playing the piano at a young age and was a dedicated singer in the Antwerp Cathedral Choir for many years. He earned his master’s degree in organ and his teaching diploma from the Lemmens Institute in Leuven (LUCA School of Arts). In recent years, he has performed recitals on the cathedral organs of Antwerp, Mechelen, and Ypres in his homeland. He was the titular organist of St. Laurentius Church in Hove for several years and has been active as one of the organists of the monumental Van Bever organ in the Dominican Church in Brussels.

His passion for choral singing runs through his life like a common thread. During his studies, he took over the leadership of the Koristen van Keizersberg, the men’s choir connected to the Benedictine Abbey in Leuven. As a member of the Chant Group Psallentes, he has sung numerous concerts and contributed to various CD recordings. Since 2010, he has worked as a répétiteur and accompanist with deCHORALE, Antwerp’s largest oratorio choir.

He is a guest professor of ear training at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and teaches at de!Kunsthumaniora in Antwerp and Wilrijk. Outside of teaching, he sings in the Zangerscollectief, a group of ten people who share their passion for music and singing with each other and their audience. With the nonprofit zaterdagzondag, he works on various pop-up choir projects, including the annual “In Koor.” As an organist, he prefers the symphonic repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries and the often-neglected organs in Flanders from the same period. He has written several contributions on this subject for Orgelkunst, the Flemish magazine for organ culture. In 2019, Jef Neve asked him to premiere his composition for the symphonic organ in BOZAR Brussels, a world premiere recorded and broadcast by Radio Klara.
