Frank Heye studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Ghent with Edward de Geest and later with Dirk Verschraegen. He earned several first prizes and the diploma ‘2nd cycle new structure, instrumental option.’ He also took masterclasses with J. Huys, E. Kooiman, T. Koopman, and G. Bovet. His repertoire includes music from all stylistic periods, with a particular focus on contemporary music. He has premiered several works by Flemish composers.
Frank Heye is the titular organist of the organ in Destelbergen, which he helped restore in 1994, acting as an advisor for the entire project. In 1996, he founded an ‘organ committee’ there. He also served as an advisor for the re-restoration of the organ in the Holy Cross Church in Heusden. In Ghent, he organized concerts dedicated to Flemish composers Arthur Meulemans, Robert Herberigs, Norbert Rosseau, and Cyriel Van den Abeele. He regularly performs in Belgium and most European countries on both historical and modern organs.
Frank Heye is also the chairman of the organ concerts at St. Macharius Church in Laarne and the summer concert series at St. Bavo’s Cathedral in Ghent, organized by the Ghent Organ Center. In 2003, he received the ‘médaille d’argent’ from the association académique ‘Arts, sciences et lettres’ in Paris for his artistic achievements. He was awarded a double prize at the International Organ Festival in Kortrijk in 2014 and received a certificate of honor.
As a teacher, he is affiliated with the Art Academy in Ghent and the Municipal Academy for Music, Word, and Dance in Oudenaarde, where he has an extensive teaching practice. He contributed to CD recordings with the chamber choir ‘Soratea’ conducted by Patrick Debrabandere, the male choir ‘St. Barbara’ of Heusden conducted by Jos van den Borre, including music by Peter Benoit, and trombonist David Ray (trombonist of the Brussels Philharmonic). He also participated in a double-CD recording of the complete organ works of Gabriël Verschraegen commissioned by ‘Orgelkunst.’
